Travel Notes: Leaving Hong Kong

Today is leaving day from Hong Kong. We will take a shuttle from the hotel to the Hung Hom/ Lo Wu train and we’ll take that to the end of the line to Lo Wu. Then we’ll head across the border to mainland China, and to the Shenzhen train station (just a 5 minute walk), where we’ll try to find some lunch before our train departs for Shanghai!

Over the past few days, we’ve been shopping, we took the Star Ferry from Kowloon to Wan Chai (just $2.50 Hong Kong Dollars each! About $.30 USD!) we climbed up tons of stairs to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery, and another memorial temple looking place because we thought it was the Monastery at first. Those were in Sha Tin – just 2 train stops from the first hotel. We took a very long and very high cable car ride over some mountains and water to the Po Lin Monastery and Big Buddha. We climbed up the streets in the Central district, and walked around Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, the trendy mini-Times Square area.

Every building, it seems, has a shopping mall inside, and every subway station has 7-11 and clothing stores and bakeries. The trains come every 4 minutes, and are very clean! Everything is very clean, and there are always people cleaning in the stores and ready to assist! Even at a small 7-11 shop, there are often 2 people working. The train stations require a lot of walking, and often feel like airports, with moving walkways and tons of people!

We’re off to find some breakfast now before heading for the border!
